Head's Welcome

I am really pleased to welcome you to Viking Primary School website - thank you for visiting! We hope our website gives you a flavour of our school but to get a real sense of the community feeling within our school, we encourage you to come and visit! Please ring or email the office to make an appointment so we can make sure someone is there to answer your questions and show you around.

Our aim at Viking is ensure all our pupils have access to a safe and stimulating learning environment. We live by our vision ‘be the best you can be’ (article 29 – UNCRC); enabling our children to become independent, self-confident, mature and happy learners, with self-esteem and respect for the needs and rights of others. We aim to offer a rich and engaging school experience in which children are active participants in their own learning.

We aim to provide a firm foundation upon which to move to secondary education. By the time they leave us at age 11, we will expect that your child will have achieved a level of reading, writing and maths which is the best for their ability.

The curriculum we offer at Viking Primary aims:

  • To promote a love of learning.
  • To provide a happy, safe and secure learning environment.
  • To offer a diverse range of learning experiences
  • To nurture and build confidence in individuals so they are equipped and skilled for later life.
  • To give everyone the opportunity to fulfil their highest potential, both academically, and in respect of their wider interests and talents.
  • To offer a bespoke curriculum that makes full use of the local community and environment but also reaches out in to the wider world to nurture global thinkers; global citizens of the future.
  • To offer a wide range of enrichment activities and experiences, including after school clubs and educational visits.
  • To provide high quality teaching by well trained, highly motivated and well supported staff.

Our curriculum also has five key drivers which underpin all elements of our curriculum; Ambitious, Articulate, Curious, Inspired, Knowledgeable. (For more information about our curriculum, please visit the curriculum page on our website here)

At Viking, we believe that children learn best if they feel valued, secure and part of a supportive community, so we have invested in systems that support this approach. As a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, our values link to the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child and we are passionate about children’s rights. Every child at Viking has a vital role in upholding these rights and we encourage all our children to lead in this respect. (Find out more about our RRSA journey here.)

Mental health and wellbeing also plays a vital role in supporting our pupils to fully access and flourish during their educational journey. We have invested in developing a successful forest school and are able to offer Place2be support for our pupils via direct Place2be programs or via our amazing sanctuary garden (more details here

Our core values of effort, teamwork, respect, fun and positivity pervade the whole curriculum, from Nursery to Year 6. We also aim to ensure that the principle of partnership between the school, parents and the community is fostered.

We look forward to working with you on your child’s successful and happy journey through the school.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Norris
